Wedding Receptions at a Virginia Winery, Catering By Teatime

Tasting Room at Stone Tower Estates Winery

Stone Tower Estate Winery located just outside Leesburg Virginia on Hogback Mountain.  www.stonetowerwinery.com  is an awesome break from traditional wedding reception venues.
So imagine me, the caterer, driving up and down and around and about this wonderful country road only to come face to face with these fellows:

Incredibly Cute Cows

Now you may not be able to see from this photo, but these incredibly cute cows have LONG HAIR!  Cows with fur!  They were just chilling with the view, with imaginary thought bubbles of “Wassup?”  It really set the mood for a fun adventure.
The venue is fairly new to the wedding reception industry, with a barn now being used as their main tasting room while they are currently building an additional and bigger facility for tastings leaving the barn for events only.

This a photo from their website.  I share this because it showcases a much warmer time of year for the typical wedding reception than the 30+ degree weather Washington DC and Northern Virginia is experiencing.  The barn doors open on the lower level to the tasting room which we will be using as our cocktail hour.

An eclectic mix of wine barrels and assorted furniture make the tasting room a really fun spot to sip the winery’s wine, and assorted appetizers displayed on additional barrels and planks.  Assorted Imported and Domestic Cheeses and Crackers, passed Silver Dollar Crab Cakes with Roasted Red Bell Pepper Sauce to suggest just a few. While the venue does not provide beer, a renting client can provide it themselves and the caterer – in this case Teatime – will provide the bar service.

Upper Level of Barn

Upstairs is where the buffet dinner will take place.  Our two events have guest counts ball park 125 guests which is a perfect amount for this space and enough room for the buffet and a small back up bar for the dinner hour.  If the weather permits, those barn doors in the background can be open proving a lovely country breeze and views (see barn photo above).
Wedding cake?  So many great ideas, but talking and brainstorming with the owner, this was her suggestion:

What could be more perfect than a wedding cake (style and flavor TBD) atop a rustic wine barrel?  Fresh flowers and even wine vines could wrap around the base of the white cake stand for an awesome display.
They do regular wine tastings, and according to their website their varietals include Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
We are delighted to discover this new venue and hope to cater many more events in the future.  And keep posted later this spring as we blog about the actual wedding reception, the food, and the guests!  TWICE!
