This past Saturday Catering By Teatime was lucky to cater a wedding reception at Cabell’s Mill in Centreville, VA www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/hprs/cabells.htm
The venue is part of Fairfax County’s Historic Properties Rental Services. Cabell’s Mill catering opportunities are conveniently located just minutes from Washington DC.  The website describes the property as: 5235 Walney Road

Located in the wooded acres of Ellanor C. Lawrence Park, Cabell’s Mill
has long been a unique setting for social occasions. Built prior to
1800 and operated as a mill until 1916, the property was purchased in
1935 by Ellanor Lawrence. She and her husband, David, founder of US
News & World Report, transformed the old mill into a guest house
and hosted many Washington notables, including Franklin and Eleanor
Roosevelt.

Today, Cabell’s Mill offers a spacious room with hardwood floors, deep
window sills and a working fireplace. On the lower level is a smaller
room with an antique buffet table and fireplace, while outside an
expansive terrace overlooks Big Rocky Run. The mill provides a
beautiful secluded setting for many special occasions.”
We certainly lucked out on weather.  The forecast for Northern Virginia suggested hurricane residue for the entire weekend.  We dodged that bullet and the ceremony was held on the tented back patio,

After the ceremony, the catering staff “flipped” the space and turned it into a dining area:

 Upstairs on the main level of the building we provided a bar, dj and additional guest seating.

During the cocktail hour the guests were served Signature Drinks, one featuring fresh cucumber slices-vodka-lemonade.  Passed appetizers of Manchego Tappas and Gazpacho Shooters were served along with An Assorted Cheese and Cracker Display and Silver Dollar Crab Cakes with Roasted Red Bell Pepper Sauce.
The main buffet of utensil free heavy appetizers also included a variety of options including Garlic Lime Chilled Shrimp:

Our Heavy Appetizer menu works very well in a scenario where there might be limited table seating as it is utensil free.  We use this menu for wedding receptions, birthday parties, anniversary parties, business gathering.  As I was walking through the reception I noticed a guest with a particularly composed plate of food and asked if I could take a photo:

And of course, what would a wedding reception catered by Catering By Teatime be without one of Ruth’s signature wedding cakes?  Three tier Satin Ribbon Cake – Chocolate Fudge Cake with Fresh Raspberry Filling.  A delectable finish to a fine menu.
